SPOKANE, Wash. -- A thin layer of smoke from wildfires in Canada is drifting high above the Inland Northwest. The smoke is almost invisible, but was highlighted by the angle of the rising sun on the GOES West weather satellite early Thursday morning.

The only evidence of this smoke down here on the ground is a hazy horizon and red-tinted sunrise and sunset. Since the smoke is elevated, there is no air quality risk for the Inland Northwest.

High-altitude winds will continue to carry this elevated smoke over the Inland Northwest through Friday morning before clearing Friday afternoon.

Look for some thicker smoke to show up by sunset on Thursday over communities north of Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.
