CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) - A Cedar Falls woman is charged with murder after a deadly shooting Wednesday night.

Cedar Falls Police say at 6:32 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to 4317 Newland Drive for a report of a domestic dispute. It was reported that one person had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found 72-year-old David Alan Charlton dead.

66-year-old Kimberly Ann Charlton was detained by police and taken to the Cedar Fall Police Department. She is is charged with First Degree Murder.

According to a criminal complaint, Kimberly Charlton told investigators that David Charlton had attempted to physically assault her while in a bedroom when the family dog stopped the assault.

David Charlton left the room, got a walking case, and reentered the room threatening to hit the dog
