SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — State agents are now assisting in the investigation of a suspicious death reported in Sumter County on Thursday morning.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, deputies and members of the Sumter County Coroner's Office were called to the area of Bell and McCoy roads outside of Mayesville around 8:30 a.m.

A sheriff's office spokesperson said it would be investigating the case as suspicious until authorities can be sure of the victim's cause and manner of death. On Friday, the sheriff's office confirmed that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is also assisting in the investigation.

The sheriff's department said it would release additional details when they become available.
