With the proliferation of the transfer portal in college sports over the past few seasons, we've also seen the proliferation of tampering.

Tampering isn't allowed within NCAA rules, but those rules are often unenforceable. Like it or not, it has become a reality of the modern college game.

That doesn't mean that coaches are happy about it, however. After being eliminated in the Conway Regional final this past weekend, East Carolina baseball coach Cliff Godwin bemoaned tampering in a post on social media and even claimed to have evidence of opposing coaches communicating with his players who have not entered the transfer portal, which would constitute tampering.

"Our system is so BROKEN! We have coaches at P4 schools texting our players directly who are not in portal! And we have proof!" Godwin wrote.

As of publication, Godwin has not posted any evidence or screenshots of opposing coaches texting Pirates players. We'll see if that changes, but for now, it's clear that Godwin is among the growing list of coaches voicing their frustrations about the difficulty of building and (even more so) maintaining a roster in college sports.
