CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — A baby Grant's zebra is showing his stripes at the Cape May County Zoo.

County officials on Thursday announced the May 21 birth of a male foal to zebras Lydia and Ziggy.

“This exciting new addition is the first male zebra to be born at the zoo in recent years,” reads the announcement. “Although foals take frequent naps, you’ll also be able to observe him nursing and playing in the zebra yard with the rest of the herd.”

Grant’s zebras are native to central and eastern Africa. Gestation lasts 13 months, and foals run within an hour of birth.

The Cape May County Parks & Zoo are open daily. Zoo hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The parks are open from 7 a.m. to dusk.
