Elon Musk and Donald Trump hurled insults at each other all day on Thursday after the president’s former ally attacked the bill containing his entire legislative agenda. And though Musk had somewhat backed off his hardline stance a few hours later, the prospects of a detente were highly uncertain on Friday. President Trump, rather uncharacteristically, seemed to be trying to project a sense that he was above the feud, though he did imply, not for the first time, that Musk had lost his marbles:
