WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - A new person is in charge of the Williston Police Department.
The Williston City Commission voted to name Steven Gutknecht the new Chief of Police. The decision comes a week after former Chief David Peterson resigned .
Gutknecht brings decades of law enforcement experience, formerly an agent of the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation and, most recently, the interim Williston Police Chief.
He now takes over a department that is ready to move on after some concerns about retention and leadership.
“I just feel like I have to provide a good place for you to work, the resources you need, and then you guys will do your job, thus surrounding me with good people and being able to do my job successfully,” said Gutknecht.
