SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — A death investigation is underway in Sumter County, officials confirmed on Thursday morning.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, deputies and members of the Sumter County Coroner's Office are at a location in the Mayesville area investigating what authorities described as a suspicious death. A sheriff's office spokesperson said it would be investigating the case in such a way until authorities can be sure of the victim's cause and manner of death.
