Daniel “D.J.” Granville has been a member of law enforcement for a long time and, according to his lawyer, looks forward to returning to work.

But as long as he stays on the payroll for just two more months, whether he is on the job or on paid leave, he is locking in a healthy retirement check.

Based on state retirement information obtained by The Buffalo News, it appears that the embattled narcotics chief would be eligible to retire with an annual pension of more than $104,500 a year, as long as he is still employed in August. That is when he should reach the state retirement system’s 20-year threshold for immediate access to the state pension that applies to sheriff’s deputies.
