HERRIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Herrin Fire Department invited the public to celebrate the grand opening of its new station on June 20. The event aimed to introduce the community to the new facility with an Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the beginning of the event and Pastor Mark of St. Mary's Herrin will perform a blessing of the firehouse.
Herrin Mayor Steve Frattini is scheduled to deliver a speech to commemorate the occasion. Clearwave Fiber is also expected to present a check to the department, emphasizing community support.
Attendees will enjoy free BBQ sandwiches, hot dogs and treats from an ice cream truck. The event will also feature tours of the new facility and various kids' activities.
