MOORHEAD — Another stellar season for the Moorhead girls lacrosse team came to an end Thursday morning.

The Spuds held their own against three-time defending Minnesota Section 8 champion Elk River-Zimmerman, but three unanswered goals in the third quarter ultimately gave the Elks a 5-2 win and a fourth straight section title at Jim Gotta Stadium.

Knotted up in a 2-2 game at halftime, Kylah Holte, Emily Brummer and Samantha Huewe each found the net for ERZ in the third frame and never looked back.

Holte finished with two goals for the No. 4-seeded Elks (12-4), who advanced to next week's state tournament for the fourth year in a row. The state tournament will be played Tuesday, June 10, Thursday, June 12 and Saturday, June 14 at Chaska and Eden Prairie high schools.
