TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A new Florida law will require restaurants to reveal their "hidden" fees before customers dine in.
The new law, signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis, will require restaurant owners to notify customers of automatic service charges, tips, or operational fees.
Many restaurants include gratuities or service charges for large parties, but customers told NBC affiliate WBBH that they are often unaware until the bill arrives.
Some customers said they were charged a service fee, a preset tip, and were still asked for an additional tip.
"You don't want to return to the establishment sometimes because you feel like you've been duped," Megan Kinary told the news station. "Transparency is key. I think it's most important for everyone to be on the same page."
