WASHINGTON —

President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping spoke Thursday amid stalled tariff negotiations between the United States and China, aiming to finalize a deal to ease the trade war.

Despite ongoing trade tensions, Trump described the conversation as "very positive" and said they "straightened out any complexity." The U.S. and China are now planning to resume trade talks.

"I think we're in very good shape with China and the trade deal," Trump said. "We have a deal with China, as you know, but we were straightening out some of the points having to do mostly with rare earth, magnets and some other things."
