Lincoln, NE — The Nebraska Farm Bureau Association has awarded six individuals the Nebraska Rural Radio Scholarship, aiming to bolster rural areas by requiring recipients to commit to living and working in rural Nebraska.

Melissa Haack, one of the scholarship recipients, plans to use her scholarship for a math teaching endorsement.

"I love the values that we have in our rural community. To keep our communities thriving and going strong, it's important for people to be able to work in those communities so that they can bring their families back and continue to try to grow and sustain those communities," she said.

Andra Smith emphasized the need for educators in rural areas, stating, "There's not a lot of people out here but there is a lot of need for teachers."
