Latest News: Malia Obama Drops Her Last Name

Malia Obama is leaving her famous last name behind as she pursues her own film career. The 26-year-old daughter of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama was credited by her stage name Malia Ann for her 2023 short film The Heart , which she wrote and directed. Ann is Malia’s middle name.

Although the decision isn’t new, Malia’s choice is back in the news after Michelle spoke about the switch on the June 2 episode of Kate Hudson ’s Sibling Revelry podcast, saying she respects that Malia is “trying to make her way.”
