Morten Harket, 65, lead singer for synth-pop band A-ha, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The Norwegian group became a worldwide phenomenon and changed music video history with the promo for their 1985 earworm of a hit “ Take on Me .”

The clip, which mixed comic book-style animation with live action, earned the band six MTV Video Music Awards and numerous other accolades.

In a post to the group’s official website, band biographer Jan Omdahl writes:

“You know him as a-ha’s iconic frontman, a divinely gifted singer, reluctant pop star, solo artist, songwriter, eccentric thinker, father of five and a grandfather too, but in recent years Morten Harket has also been a man battling his own body…”
