COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - A Texas A&M graduate relied on true grit in order to become the advocate she is today for people with disabilities. That tenacity paid off tenfold last week when Governor Greg Abbott signed the “ Building Better Futures Bill ” into law.

House Bill 2081 will expand funding for comprehensive transition and postsecondary programs (CTP) across Texas higher education institutions.

“[HB 2081] is going to allow for more universities and colleges to request funding to get more programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” explained Shelbi Davenport, a College Station woman who helped inspire the bill. “I was recognized on the House floor for the bill. They shared my testimony, and then three days later, Governor Abbott signed it.”
