EVANS COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) confirmed that they are investigating the Evans County Board of Education Thursday.
The investigation was initiated following the results of an audit of the Board of Education conducted by the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, a GBI spokesperson told WSAV.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
In early May, the Evans County Board of Education (BOE) and the superintendent reportedly agreed to split.
Martin G. Waters' last day with the school system was May 31, 2025, the BOE said in a press release.
Waters served as superintendent since 2016.
