CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents and North Charleston Police took the stand in the prosecution’s continuing case alleging a guest at a motel shot and killed the owner in 2022.

Darnell Brown is on trial, accused of firing the bullet that killed Jagdishbhai Patel on June 25, 2022, at the Charleston Heights Motel in North Charleston.

The victim’s family testified as witnesses earlier in the trial, but did not see the shooter. Investigators explained how their work led to Brown.

Patel’s wife testified that earlier in the day, she had talked to Brown and put a lock on his door because he had requested it. She also said his card declined when trying to pay, but she said he could stay and pay whenever he had the money.
