BED-STUY — A massive fire at 922 Lafayette Ave. on Wednesday afternoon obliterated a three-story building, with nearly all of the structure fully gone, leaving residents displaced and two firefighters with minor injuries.

The fire began around 1:30 p.m. before the blaze spread to adjacent structures, severely damaging a 16-unit, 2-store building next door. FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Joe Duggan told the media that fire conditions were too dangerous to approach the original building by the time crews arrived, leading firefighters to focus on the adjoining buildings.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause, with reports of someone fleeing the scene. Locals and fire officials said the stricken building had been a cause of community concern, with debris and rats in the front yard.
