CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) — A bike lane years in the making that will connect the City of Elmira to the Village of Horseheads is finally underway.
On Wednesday, June 4, paint crews were seen on Davis Street in Elmira designating a section of the road as a bike path. The path will take riders down Davis Street to Oakwood Avenue, then onto 13th Street, and ending on Grand Central Avenue.
The six-mile corridor creates a specific area for cyclists with plans remaining the same from the initial reports back in 2023.
Mike Perry, deputy director of Elmira-Chemung Transportation Council, said the project is in its final design phase and will be adding lines and symbols to designate the bike lane.
