WASHINGTON — Community members voiced their concerns about proposed changes to healthcare programs in the city, including Medicaid and the D.C. Healthcare Alliance.

During a public hearing with the Committee on Health, D.C. residents, including Farighamina Tumpe, stressed the importance of Medicaid. Under Mayor Muriel Bowser’s budget proposal , more than 25,000 adults with no children and adult caregivers who earn more than 138% of the federal poverty level could lose Medicaid coverage.

“This impact would be detrimental,” Tumpe said. “Right now, even I have to choose whether I buy medications or put food on the table, and I work.”
