NEW YORK (PIX11) -- A popular hangout spot for pigeons is causing some issues on Long Island.

The town of North Hempstead is drafting a new law to prevent birds from feeding on commercial property.

Hundreds of pigeons have taken up residence at the corner of Hillside Avenue and Herricks Road in North Hempstead.

One of the nearby buildings is vacant. People at other nearby businesses have heard about the birds.

Some people said the pigeons didn’t bother them, but the town has received some complaints about the mess.

The proposal would ban “feeding, keeping, maintaining or harboring of pigeons in commercial districts without approval of the board of zoning.”
