POPLAR, Mont. – The body of a 16-year-old boy was found in the Missouri River on June 5 near a roll off site southeast of Poplar. The Fort Peck Tribal Law Enforcement released information regarding the incident.
The boy reportedly entered the river from BIA Route 1 on June 3, veering through a ditch and fence before reaching the water. Law enforcement conducted searches on boats and land in the area.
Assistance came from the Williams County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team, which deployed sonar-equipped boats. The vehicle was located near a boat ramp south of BIA Route 1, prompting the return of Williams County with a diving team the following day.
On June 5, the dive team attached a tow strap to the submerged vehicle, pulling it from the water with the boy inside.
