KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A new chapter for Powell Courts has begun after one deteriorated facility was transformed into a vibrant recreational space. A ribbon cutting was held Thursday morning to mark the facility's grand reopening.

The renovated courts include pickleball courts, better basketball facilities, and improved accessibility for everyone. In 2023, Knox County Parks and Recreation received a petition asking for updated basketball courts in Powell as they were working on their master plan.

"We found this location and we decided, you know, we also had input on the park's master plan for some pickleball. So, we decided we'd convert the four tennis courts into a tennis court, four pickleball courts, and then a full basketball court," said Knox County Parks Director Joseph Mack.
