BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles are warning residents about a new text message scam that could lead to identity theft and financial loss.
In the latest version of the scam, individuals across the state have received messages falsely claiming they owe money for an "outstanding traffic ticket." The message threatens repercussions if payment is not made. Authorities urge recipients to ignore and delete the texts immediately.
Officials emphasize that the OMV does not send text messages or emails threatening prosecution over traffic or fee violations.
