LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - President Donald Trump has announced new entry restrictions into the United States for people from countries his administration deems dangerous . Twelve countries are now under a total travel ban, while seven countries were placed under a partial ban.

Among those under partial restrictions is Cuba, a country with a large presence in Louisville. There are estimated to be around 60,000 Cubans in the state of Kentucky. One of them is Maria Teresa Rodriguez, who came to the U.S. with her family as political refugees in 2009.

“My family was persecuted by the Cuban government because they were Catholics,” she told WAVE News. “Cubans were not allowed back in the day, when the communists took over, to practice any religion but just to worship the government.”
