NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The Natchitoches Police Department is warning residents about scammers posing as police officers.

According to NPD, the suspects are attempting to defraud citizens out of money by “spoofing” the Natchitoches Police Department's phone number and using the actual names of their officers. Police say when the scammers spoof the number, it appears on the caller ID as if it were coming from the police department.

The Natchitoches Police Department would like to remind the public that they will never contact citizens by phone to request payment for warrants or fines. If you encounter any suspicious activity, please call the Natchitoches Police Department at (318) 352-8101.
