APEX, N.C. (WNCN) — Aaron Rodriguez said a flag can represent so much. For him, it’s a symbol of community.

“It means acceptance, it means being who you are, it means having a community behind you that may understand what you're going through in that moment,” said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is a leader with Project Rainbow, an LGBTQ+ group in Apex focused on fitness, building connections, and acceptance. He said community and inclusiveness are part of an effort they hope to build while coming together each Wednesday at Apex Community Park.

“The Triangle area has made big strides to become more accepting for all communities,” said Rodriguez. He added, “To see this one incident happen… It was shocking.”
