SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - One week ago, dozens of Iowa National Guard members from units in Sioux City, Le Mars, Carroll, and Estherville said goodbye to their families as they left on a year-long deployment to the Middle East.

The local organization, “Support Siouxland Soldiers”, is leading volunteers to put together a special gift for the sons and daughters of those soldiers.

KTIV Videographer Joe McMahan shows us how these “deployment dolls” are helping stitch together families separated by service. The full story can be viewed in the video player above.

The organization was hoping to get 100 dolls finished.
