BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The California Highway Patrol said it will launch a statewide maximum enforcement period this weekend with its focus on speeding.
The enforcement is set to begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, and last until 5:59 a.m. on Sunday, June 8.
CHP said officers will increase patrols and keep an eye out for drivers who drive too fast over the speed limit or for driving conditions at that time.
According to CHP, speeding is a factor in nearly 30% of all crashes throughout California.
“Speeding puts everyone on the road at risk,” said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee. “Every additional mile per hour over the limit reduces a driver’s ability to react and increases the severity of a crash. Slowing down saves lives, it’s that simple.”
