BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A preliminary hearing was postponed Thursday to late August in the case of a man facing murder and other charges in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian walking on the Westside Parkway.

The hearing for Tomice Lee Fryman Jr. was postponed at the request of defense attorney Tony Lidgett, who said he needs more time after receiving voluminous discovery material.

The new hearing date is Aug. 26.

Fryman, 51, called police to turn himself in hours after the gruesome crash scene was located early May 3 near the Mohawk Avenue overpass.

It's alleged he was going between 98 and 104 miles per hour when his car hit Zachariah Nathaniel Byrd, 36 -- the impact so violent it left body parts on the roadway and in the vehicle.
