MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office is taking its investigations to new heights with the addition of advanced drone technology.

Ouachita Parish Sheriffs Office officials say they were awarded a grant of around $7,000 from Kansas Southern Railway. So far, officials say they have three drones and and have plans to expand their drone fleet in the future.

They say the latest drone features GPS tracking, heat-sensitive detectors, zoom capabilities and night vision, making it valuable for investigations.

Chief Deputy of the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, Larry Knight says the drones are more than just high-tech tools, he says they are an investment for officer safety.
