Clark County’s energy use this winter was average, although how summer usage will compare with previous years remains to be seen.

Energy use hit a 23-year high in 2023 but returned to normal in 2024 as the region experienced a milder winter.

This winter continued that trend, with energy consumption growing about as expected at 1.2 percent, said Dameon Pesanti, Clark Public Utilities spokesman.

“This season’s highest peak demand came in February,” Pesanti said.

The month was colder than average.

Demand may have exceeded what the utility was expecting that month, but it still fell far below what consumers used during 2024’s $26 million January ice storm , he said.
