LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lily Lautenschlager started playing wheelchair tennis when she was seven years old, now she’s using her hard work in wheelchair athletics to inspire others.
“I was born with something called Klippel–Trénaunay syndrome, so my circulatory systems from the waist down don’t work very well, and I don’t have very good stamina which is one of the reasons why I use a wheelchair,” Lautenschlager said.
Growing up, it wasn’t always easy for Lautenschlager, doing her best to come to terms with using a wheelchair.
“In elementary school, I was the only one in a wheelchair in my classes and stuff, so meeting other people in wheelchairs kind of showed me I wasn’t alone.”
It was at Woods Tennis Center where she met a lot of her peers. Lautenschlager went on to travel the world pl
