TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The federal government is considering a program to open nearly all of the U.S. coastline to oil drilling, even in areas such as Florida’s east coast in which there is a moratorium for drilling.

It appears this issue is one in which both sides of the aisle agree: they don’t want oil drilling in Florida’s Atlantic waters.

Currently, the eastern coastline of Florida, three miles out in federal waters, there is a moratorium when it comes to oil drilling. It can’t be done.

However, the federal government is thinking about changing that.

For 45 days, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is taking public input about a program that would open up nearly all of the U.S. coastline to oil drilling.
