San Bernardino police seize almost $7 million in street value of illegal drugs in a recent 30-day period, an achievement the department attributed to “targeted investigations and proactive enforcement operations” by its narcotics unit.

Capt. Nelson Carrington, the Police Department’s head of investigations, said the department increased its narcotics seizures after a new emphasis from Chief Darren Goodman on collaboration with other law enforcement agencies.

Carrington declined to be specific on detectives’ tactics but did say that many of the seizures came from traffic stops made for Vehicle Code violations. The narcotics were in the cars in some cases; in others, the stops led to the service of search warrants that turned up drugs, Carrington said.
