BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) - Burke County Animal Services is alerting residents that a fox in the county tested positive for rabies this week.
According to Animal Services, officials were contacted about a fox attempting to attack citizens in the area of Middle Ground Road and Porter Carswell Road on May 28. The fox was removed from the area the same day.
Georgia's Department of Health confirmed on June 3 that test results of the fox came back positive for rabies.
The public is urged to ensure that pets and other animals are vaccinated for rabies or up to date on vaccination by a licensed veterinarian.
People are warned to avoid contact with wild animals, especially if they are "acting outside of their normal behavior."
