Part of Route 8 north closed after serious crash in Seymour, Conn.

SEYMOUR, Conn. — Part of Route 8 north is closed Thursday after a single-car crash in Seymour with serious injuries involved, state police said.

Route 8 north is currently closed at Exit 18 in Seymour due to the crash. According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, a detour is in place from Route 67 to SR721 to Route 42 and back onto Route 8 at the Exit 21 on ramp.

State police said troopers from Troop I in Bethany responded to the crash at 6:56 p.m. and added that the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad was called to the scene.

Drivers are urged to find alternative route while the closure is in place, state police said.

Seymour police said there is heavy traffic in the downtown area as traffic is diverted onto local roads and causing significant delays.
