DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa City Liberty and Cedar Rapids Washington battled for a right to go to the 3A state championship in boys soccer on Thursday.
The Lightning came away with a 3-2 victory over the Warriors. Three seniors scored for Liberty including, Mason Pentecost, Japhet Bongo, and Roman Riggs.
Liberty won a state championship two years ago. This senior class, wants to win one with themselves as the feature players.
“My first time, I was a sophomore and I was on the bench where I didn’t feel like I provided much. But this year, I feel like I have a bigger impact. It feels good to be able to score and help lead the team to the finals,” said Pentecost.
Liberty’s season in 2024 came to a close because they got four red cards on the year, one more than allowed, forcing them to
