SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist was killed in an accident near Hyrum, Cache County, early Tuesday morning, police confirmed.

Lt. Mikelshan Bartschi with the Utah Highway Patrol said the crash happened before 6 a.m. on 1200 West around 3900 South between Hyrum and Nibley.

Bartschi identified the motorcyclist as 24-year-old Jose Manuel Figueroa Bejar. He was reportedly riding at high speeds , “well above the 50 MPH limit.”

Officials said Bejar was passing cars in the opposite lanes when he crossed a lane and hit an SUV. He was wearing a helmet, but he died on scene, Bartschi said.

The driver of the SUV was evaluated by emergency crews and was not taken to the hospital.
