The fight to save an Austin affordable apartment complex was put to a vote on Thursday. The Austin City Council approved rezoning Acacia Cliffs in Northwest Austin and allowing the redevelopment project to move forward. But changes were made to help protect residents from escalating rents that might force them to move.
Eric Gomez came to Austin City Hall to fight to save his apartment and keep it affordable.
"Living there has been great and I was really devastated when they said it was going to be demolished," said Gomez.
Approval of a controversial rezoning request would allow the aging Acacia Cliffs Apartments in Northwest Austin to be torn down to make room for a taller, less affordable complex. Under the Density Bonus 90 Program (DB90) developers would only have to commit to a certa
