Austin city council approved more than $15 million dollars Thursday on contracts with artists for different projects as part of the airport expansion.
The initial vote in March was postponed after the community pushed back when there weren't enough local artists represented.
The initial proposal had three phases, with the first involving national artists, the second involving state artists and the third representing local artists. These phases remain the same, but the selected artists now must have at least 10-percent of local artists involved in their installations. The biggest of which is nearly $11 million for a 500-foot tunnel which will connect to the new airport terminal.
Austinite Craig Nazner took to the podium Thursday morning, asking city council to include more local artists
