KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Camp Virgil Tate has been working with Kanawha County commissioners for a solution to keep the camp and its nine buildings up and running.

Oscar Hutchison, treasurer for the Camp Virgil Tate Foundation, said, “All of them need repairs, we’ve got a list as long as your arm.”

The County Commission recently held off on funding the camp after discovering issues with CPS temporarily housing at-risk foster kids on the property.

Commissioner Natalie Tennant said they’ve been having open discussions with the camp’s board, approving $100,000 for the camp on Thursday.

“We will work together, you will know exactly what is taking place. Minutes may be more readily available to the commissioners, but there has been a true back and forth,” Tennant said.
