HEDGESVILLE – Hedgesville had to knock off top-seeded Jefferson in the Class AAAA, Region II baseball final to capture a spot in this year’s state tournament.

The fourth-seeded Eagles are hoping to repeat that performance in Charleston this weekend, as they face No. 1 seed Hurricane at 5 p.m. today in the first of two state semifinals.

“Jefferson was going to be the one seed before we knocked them off, so they’re kind of the new, default one seed, so hopefully, we can do that twice,” Hedgesville coach Eric Grove said.

Hedgesville was forced to battle back during regional play after dropping the first game to the Cougars, and it did just that, winning the next two elimination games by scores of 8-2 and 4-2, including the final elimination game on the road. The Eagles finished 4-2 against
