WASHINGTON — Surveillance video released Thursday gives a closer look at the moped driver whom the Metropolitan Police Department believes hit a 10-year-old boy in Northwest D.C. and drove off.

The crash sent Zaevion Smith to the hospital with a compound fracture to the right leg on Monday.

"My bone was sticking out," Zaevion told WUSA9's Melissa Kim on Wednesday. "It feels better, but it hurts."

Zaevion's mother, Lapria Smith, said that her son had been riding on a push scooter with his older sister on Monday, when the moped turned the corner too quickly and hit her children.

Lapria Smith, who wasn't home at the time, said hearing about what happened over FaceTime from her sister and neighbors was every mother's worst nightmare.
