OKLAHOMA CITY (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Sod Poodles’ late-inning push came up short Thursday night as they fell to the Tulsa Drillers, 7-4, at ONEOK Field.

Tulsa’s Chris Newell powered the Drillers with a two-homer performance, including a three-run blast in the fifth that extended the home team’s lead to 6-1. The Drillers (24-30) scored in four consecutive innings to build a cushion that proved just enough to hold off the Sod Poodles (22-32).

After Tulsa opened with a solo home run from Newell in the second inning, John Rhodes added a bases-loaded walk in the third. Amarillo responded in the fourth as Kristian Robinson and Tommy Troy opened with singles, and Caleb Roberts delivered a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 2-1.
