SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — The University of Utah terminated its recognition of the Sigma Nu fraternity, claiming it violated university policies.

Sigma Nu will not be allowed to operate as a fraternity affiliated with the university for at least six years.

On Jan. 28, 2025, the Office of the Dean of Students and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life received information that the Sigma Nu fraternity had engaged in "serious violations" of the university's student code and Fraternal Social Organizations Policy.

Specifically, the information alleged that Sigma Nu engaged in hazing new members during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 recruitment cycles.
