PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — In part, the Portland Bureau of Transportation justified its decision to have three small businesses shutter their outdoor seating structures because of complaints from the public.

PBOT put out a press release with the title, “Public survey with more than 400 responses in 2024 showed dissatisfaction with NW 13th Avenue." KATU news obtained that survey through a public records request, and while it does show that some were not happy with the structures, it also shows that a little more than 70% of respondents say they support the outdoor dining structures.

Additionally, respondents reacted favorably to the outdoor dining structures at the three small businesses that are directly being impacted: River Pig, Star Pizza, and Papi Chulo’s.
