Chicago police responded to a call of a fallen officer near the intersection of 82nd Street and Drexel Avenue in the city’s Chatham neighborhood.

The officer was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in a squad car. Police had not released an official statement as of 11 p.m., but they announced a media outpost near the hospital where the officer was being treated.

Cook County sheriff’s deputies walked up and down Maryland Avenue near East 83rd Street with rifles and canine units while tactical teams combed nearby alleys with flashlights.
